This checklist is designed to be used in sequence, working backward from your wedding date. Begin with the "Before You Book" section as early as your search starts — ideally twelve to eighteen months before the wedding for peak Delhi venues. Move through each section in the months and weeks before your event. Share the relevant sections with your wedding planner, with both families, and with anyone who will play a coordination role on the day itself. What ultimately makes a great wedding photography experience is not equipment, or editing software, or even talent alone — it is preparation combined with trust. Preparation creates the conditions in which great photography can happen. Trust allows the photographer to work with the freedom and confidence that the best images require. - 1.Ask every photographer to share at least three complete wedding galleries — not just highlights or best-of collections. A photographer's best twenty images tell you nothing about what the other eight hundred will look like.
- 2.Watch for red flags: no written contract, no second photographer offered, evasive answers about editing timelines, or an unwillingness to provide references from previous couples.
- 3.Read the contract carefully — confirm it specifies every event covered, photographer count, image delivery timeline, payment schedule, cancellation terms, and what happens in case of photographer illness or emergency.
- 4.Understand the deposit structure: when is each payment due, what portion is non-refundable, and what are the payment milestones? A reputable studio always provides this in writing before you commit.
- 5.Confirm who will actually photograph your wedding — the person you meet during consultation, or a different associate? This distinction matters enormously and must be explicitly stated in the contract.
- 6.Ask to see work from the specific associate photographers who will cover your wedding, not just the lead photographer's portfolio. Associate quality varies widely between studios.
- 7.Check that the photographer's style is genuinely consistent across full galleries, not just on curated showcase pages. Look for how they handle challenging conditions: dark reception halls, bright midday outdoor ceremonies, fast-moving rituals.
- 8.Verify equipment: do they carry backup camera bodies, lenses, and storage media for emergencies? A professional always has redundancy. A single camera photographer is a risk you should not take.
- 9.Ask how many weddings the photographer shoots per month. More than four or five per month suggests a volume-driven operation where your wedding may not receive the individual attention it deserves.
- 10.Confirm that the photographer has experience with your specific religious and cultural tradition. An experienced Indian wedding photographer should be able to describe the key photographic moments in your specific ceremony before you explain them.
- 11.Ask about the photographer's post-production process: do they edit every image individually or apply batch presets? Individual editing takes longer but produces dramatically better and more consistent results.
- 12.Confirm the image count you will receive, the file format, and the resolution. You should receive high-resolution files suitable for printing at a minimum, not web-compressed images alone.
- 13.Ask whether the photographer has previously shot at your venue. Experience with a specific venue eliminates exploratory fumbling on the day and produces better results. If they have not shot your venue, ask how they plan to prepare.
- 14.Discuss the album process before booking. Will the photographer design your album in-house or outsource it? How many rounds of revision are included? What materials are used? These answers tell you a great deal about the studio's depth of service.

The 15 Questions You Must Ask Every Wedding Photographer
These are not optional questions for the curious. They are due diligence questions that every engaged couple should ask every photographer they are seriously considering. The answers reveal whether a studio operates with the professionalism your wedding deserves.

Can I see three complete wedding galleries, not just your highlights?
A highlights gallery shows only a photographer's best 1% across all their work. Complete galleries reveal how they handle challenging conditions: dark receptions, crowded mandaps, quick transitions. Any professional will share full galleries without hesitation.

What happens if you are ill or unable to attend on my wedding day?
This question reveals whether the studio has a proper backup plan. A reputable studio maintains a bench of trained associate photographers who can step in. If the answer is vague or the photographer says they "have a friend who could fill in," that is a serious warning sign.

How many weddings do you photograph per month?
More than four to five per month suggests a volume-driven operation. Your wedding deserves a photographer who is not running on depleted energy from the previous weekend, who has had time to review your shot list, and who brings full creative attention to your day.

Who specifically will photograph my wedding?
You need the name and portfolio of every photographer who will be present at your wedding. Many couples book a senior photographer only to discover on the day that a junior associate is covering half the events. This must be specified in writing in your contract.

What equipment do you use and what are your backup systems?
Professional cameras, prime lenses, and flash systems are expected at this level. More importantly, every professional carries duplicate camera bodies, multiple memory cards backed up in-camera, and spare batteries. Ask specifically what happens if a camera body fails during the ceremony.

How do you handle low-light situations at indoor ceremonies and receptions?
This question separates photographers who have invested in proper professional equipment from those who have not. A correct answer involves specific camera models with high ISO capability, fast prime lenses at wide apertures, and a clear policy on flash use during ceremonies.

What is your editing turnaround time and what does the editing process include?
The difference between "batch-processed" editing (automated, fast, inconsistent) and individual hand-editing (slow, intentional, consistent) is enormous in the final result. A 30-day delivery with individual editing is far more valuable than a 2-week delivery with batch presets applied.

Do I own the copyright to my images?
In India, photography copyright law is nuanced and many couples do not realise they may not own their own wedding photographs. Confirm explicitly in the contract that you receive full personal usage rights — printing, sharing, displaying — for all images in your gallery.

What is included in the contract and what is excluded?
Read the exclusions as carefully as the inclusions. Common exclusions that surprise couples include: travel costs for destination events, additional editing revisions, album design, and coverage of events beyond the contracted hours. Every line of the contract deserves reading.

What is your deposit and payment schedule?
A standard professional deposit is 25 to 35% of the total fee, non-refundable, to secure the date. Payment milestones before and on the day are normal. Be wary of studios requiring full payment far in advance — this is not standard practice and creates unnecessary financial risk.

Have you photographed at my venue before?
Prior venue experience means the photographer arrives with a plan rather than a reconnaissance mission. It means knowing the best portrait locations, the optimal timing for light conditions, the access points, and the operational quirks of the property. It is not a deal-breaker if they have not shot your venue, but it should prompt a follow-up question about how they plan to prepare.

How many images will I receive?
For a full-day wedding, 600 to 800 fully edited images is a reasonable minimum. Studios that promise "unlimited" images often deliver unedited bulk exports. Studios that promise a specific but low number may be operating a restrictive upselling model. Ask for a typical range from comparable past weddings.

What file formats and resolutions are delivered?
You should receive full-resolution JPEG files (minimum 20 megapixels from a professional camera) that are suitable for printing at large sizes. Web-optimised versions for sharing are a useful addition. Raw files are not typically included in standard packages and do not need to be — the edited JPEGs are the deliverable.

Do you offer albums and how does that design process work?
Album quality varies enormously between studios. Ask about the specific manufacturing process (Italian flush-mount versus domestic printing), the design workflow (custom versus template), the number of revision rounds included, and the expected production timeline. These details reveal whether the album is a genuine product or an afterthought.

Can I speak with a couple you have recently photographed?
Any reputable studio will connect you with recent couples who are willing to speak candidly about the experience. If a studio is hesitant or cannot provide any references, ask yourself why. A studio confident in its work and its client relationships will make this introduction readily and happily.
